With the worldwide convergence in telecommunications,
broadcasting and computing, and coinciding with Malaysia's
vision to shape tomorrow's world through the intelligent
use of Information Communication
Technology (ICT), ARL Group (ARL) realizes that
this is an important area to embark and develop into.
The establishment of the Multimedia
Super Corridor (MSC) which substantiates Malaysia's
plans to offer the world a special green field environment
to enable the society of the world to collaborate in new
ways and reap the rich rewards of ICT, further increased
ARL consciousness.
These issues made ARL appreciate the
need to be in the mainstream of the development of this
so-called Knowledge Economy or K-Economy, which it is
better known as. After 2-3 years of proactive effort and
painstaking research, ARL was able to identify the business
opportunity and decided to established a special purpose
company ARL HomeComm
Sdn Bhd (ARLHC) to carry out the business of providing
community multimedia and network
services (CMNS) that essentially and ultimately
will, god willing, be the platform for the development
of the K-Economy.
In cognizance of the above, ARL researched and adopted
a business concept where everybody will feel the necessity
to be connected to information, entertainment, communications
and most important of all with each other. In this way
they will be more knowledgeable, productive, competitive
and proactive in the development of their well being as
a whole, an essential requirement of the K-Economy. By
building an advanced community multimedia network services
system infrastructure that will transform the typical
home phone line with the capability to deliver a broad
range of interactive multimedia and networked services,
i.e. related to information, entertainment, communications
and most important of all, with each other. Technically,
it is already proven feasible but it is not economically
viable, as it is not affordable to most Malaysians. ARLHC
has developed the right business model and believes it
will be successful if implemented correctly. This led
to the birth of HomeComm.
The mission
of HomeComm is to be a premier provider of affordable,
and easy-to-use Community Multimedia Network Services
(CMNS), that enhances the services provided by Internet
Service Providers (ISPs), Telecommunications Operators
(Telco's), Broadcasters, Businesses, Government and Institutions
through an integrated, proven and reliable multimedia
and networked services system that will revolutionize
the way people interact with information, entertainment,
communications and most important of all, with each other.
