The
HomeComm Portal Services is a gateway for HomeComm's subscribers
to get connected to the World Wide Web (WWW). It is the
starting point for subscribers to access to information,
communication, entertainment and the World Wide Web. All
Internet Portal Services are web-based and to the subscriber
in an attractive and easy to use format. The subscribers
can use the services from anywhere in the world at anytime
or day. All the subscribers need to have is a web access.
The services provided for residential subscribers include
the following:-
Download Services
Download Services enables subscribers to download the latest
and most popular software, freeware and shareware from HomeComm.
The advantage of providing Download Services is that it
enables subscribers to download popular software in a quick
and efficient manner without the subscriber having to leave
HomeComm website. The range of software provided by this
service will be broad to cater for both corporate and non-corporate
subscribers. The software would include popular shareware,
freeware and plug-ins.
Personalized Homepage - MyHomeComm
The Personalized Homepage or MyHomeComm application is a
customizable HomeComm Homepage/Portalpage/Startpage where
subscribers of HomeComm can easily customize the layout
of the homepage according to their preferences. Personalization
of the homepage would include selecting the layout of the
page, the type of background and colors as well as the components,
channels or modules required. A subscriber may also choose
MyHomeComm as the default homepage setting.
MyHomeComm will be available to all subscribers when they
subscribe to the services provided by HomeComm. There will
be information channels or modules that can be conveniently
be added, removed or repositioned depending on the subscriber's
preference. This further enables subscribers to remove modules
that are not of their interest.
WebMail
In HomeComm, all subscribers will be given a web-based e-mail,
WebMail. To access the e-mail services, the subscribers
only need to login to the HomeComm website. Web-based e-mail
accounts provide the subscribers with the freedom to access
their e-mails from anywhere, at anytime, as long as they
have access to the Internet, using a web browser. Subscribers
do no need to install any e-mail client application or software
at the remote access point. Subscribers can still use any
e-mail client for mail access if they prefer to. A link
will be provided at the HomeComm Homepage and MyHomeComm
to allow easy access. All subscribers will be given 3 MB
of space quota per e-mail account.
Web Calendar
All HomeComm subscribers will be given an online organizer,
Web Calendar. Web Calendar is a web-based online electronic
organizer or calendar scheduling. Web Calendar allows subscribers
to maintain their own daily task, schedule and appointments
and set reminders.
Web Calendar service will be given free to the subscribers
when they register for HomeComm. Subscriber can access their
Web Calendar from anywhere, at anytime, through the Internet
using a web browser. A link will be provided at the HomeComm
Startpage and MyHomeComm to allow easy access.
The key elements in the web-based Web Calendar are the subscriber
interface, navigational functions, appointment scheduling,
task maintenance and calendar. The subscriber interface
must be subscriber-friendly. Navigational functions have
the flexibility to allow the subscribers to access their
information by day, week or month.
Appointments scheduling contains the common functions such
as add, edit and delete any events. The events can be set
by hourly interval. Task maintenance gives the subscribers
the capability to add or delete task list for a particular
day. Finally, the subscribers can view past dates or future
dates in the calendar.
Personal Web Hosting
Personal Web Hosting enables a subscriber to build his/her
own personal homepage on a website hosted by HomeComm. HomeComm
will provide each subscriber for example 3MB of disk space,
for personal web hosting, e-mail addresses and a host of
other value added services to get the Internet subscribers
to put up a web site on HomeComm server.
The subscribers can either choose to create their web sites
using editors provided by HomeComm, or they can choose to
upload their own files to the hosting server. The subscribers
can select different editors that cater to different levels
of HTML skillsets. Editors range from simple editors that
are template driven to advanced HTML editors. Subscribers
can also use HTML upload to upload files from their home
or work PC to the hosting server.
Chat
HomeComm Chat is a web-based real-time interactive communication
channel. Chat enables subscribers to communicate with others
interactively through the Internet. Chat enables multiple
subscribers to 'chat' as well as conduct personal chat sessions
between two subscribers at any chat room level i.e. community,
state or national. Subscribers can 'chat' from anywhere,
through the Internet using a web browser.
Forum
Forum is a web-based discussion group channel or newsgroup.
Subscribers are free to create their own discussion groups
within their community to cater for specific needs or interests.
They can also subscribe to any available discussion groups
and post their messages or questions.
The subscribers within the community will be able to subscribe
to the discussion group once they register with HomeComm
services. A link will be provided on the HomeComm Main Page
and MyHomeComm to allow easy access to the discussion or
Forum. Subscribers can select their interests from the list
of available discussion groups at various levels i.e. community,
state or national.
The common elements in the discussion consists of navigation
tools and discussion group listing. The navigation tools
include the capability to send, reply and delete messages
or place the messages in a thread. Categorization of newsgroups
will allow subscribers the freedom to choose and for easier
navigation.
Notice Board
Notice Board provides a medium for subscribers to view and
post short notices and messages posted on the Notice Board
over the Internet at nominal price depending on frequencies
and period of notice. Notice Board is a web-based notice
board on the Internet. The content of the Notice Board will
cater for general needs of subscribers and will include
information that are of interest that are applicable to
all subscribers. Subscribers can post notices on the Internet
using a web browser.
The Notice Board will be updated on a frequent basis to
keep the information up to date. Categorization of the Notice
Board information will make it easier for viewers to navigate
through the content posted.
The Notice Board will enable the dissemination of information
to the subscribers' community in a quick and efficient manner.
This enables subscribers to be informed of new events, promotions
and even as a place for advertising.
Web Postcard
Web Postcard is a web-based post card application. Subscribers
are free to create their own postcard from a wide selection
of images and send to their friends and family. They can
also add messages on the postcard.
Web Pen-pal
Web PenPal is a web-based pen-pal center where subscribers
can search for pen pal. Web PenPal contains tools that allow
subscribers to search and match the pen pal with the profile
they are searching for with ease.
